For parents

Why enrol your child in a swimming course?

Swimming is one of the most important life skills – it allows children to move safely in water, supports physical development, improves coordination, builds perseverance and boosts confidence.

Children learn to swim most easily among their peers. We place them in small groups by age and skill level, which allows faster progress, greater motivation and an individual approach from the instructors.

Learning is based on play, positive motivation and gradually overcoming challenges. Our goal is not just for a child to swim, but to develop a lasting positive attitude towards water and safe swimming.

Swimming is not just a sport – it is a life skill that saves lives.

What does a child need for the course?

  • swimwear (2×), swimming cap optional
  • pool goggles (they must not cover the nose)
  • a large and a small towel
  • flip-flops or slides
  • spare underwear and clothes for after the course
  • a bag for wet clothes
  • a bottle with a still (non-fizzy) drink
  • a snack
  • sunscreen

P. S.: Children should recognise their own swimwear and clothes. We advise against bringing digital devices to the pool.

Frequently asked questions

What parents ask us most often

What happens if my child misses a lesson due to illness or other reasons?

Please let us know about your child's absence as soon as possible. If organisational circumstances allow, we can arrange a make-up lesson at another time.

Is a proportional part of the payment refunded if my child is absent?

As a rule, refunds are not possible for individual absences, since dates and teaching staff are reserved in advance. In the case of a longer absence due to illness (with a medical certificate), we agree on everything individually — we always find a suitable solution.

How many children are in each group?

The number of children in each training group is determined by their age, swimming experience and individual needs. Groups are formed thoughtfully and professionally to ensure safe, high-quality and individually adapted teaching, in full accordance with the legislation, professional guidelines and standards governing swimming education in Slovenia.

Can a child who is afraid of water or cannot swim yet join the course?

Of course. The programme is very suitable for complete beginners and children who are afraid of water. Familiarisation with the water proceeds gradually, methodically and safely — through play.

How are children assigned to groups?

On the first day we assess their existing swimming skills and place them in groups that are as homogeneous as possible. The teachers may also adjust the groups during the course based on their professional judgement.

Can my child bring arm bands or an inflatable ring to the course?

Arm bands and inflatable rings are generally not recommended when learning to swim, as they restrict the child's natural movement in the water and can create a false sense of safety. At KOS Swim School we use professionally selected teaching aids and swimming equipment such as kickboards, swimming noodles, swim belts, diving rings, diving toys, balls and other aids for play and learning in the water.

Equipment is chosen according to the child's age, experience and the learning goals — for water familiarisation, learning correct breathing, floating and gliding, developing correct body position, learning the strokes and building underwater orientation. Its use is always planned and takes place under the direct supervision of the swimming teacher.

Can parents stay by the pool?

Parents do not need to be present at the pool — children find it easier to connect with the teacher and focus on the lesson. Parents hand their child over at the agreed meeting point and pick them up there after the lesson.
